Notices, Dates and Learning Tasks for this week

Kia ora everyone and welcome back to school for Term Two. Here are some important things happening this week...

Tuesday 30th April
-Ukelele with Baz. Please bring your ukelele and tuner if you have your own.
-Sticks 'n' Stones with Vanessa

Wednesday 1st May
-Welcome Mrs Tehuia-Homes to Room 1 for the next 3 terms!
-Lookout Reserve, volunteer planting, 10am. Wear PE, shoes good for working in, warm clothes, gardening gloves if you have some.
-Zone swimming sports
-Vege Garden for small group in the afternoon.

Thursday 2nd May
-Netball with Sharelle, wear PE gear

Friday 3rd May
-9am assembly. All welcome to join us, note the new time of day. Room 1 are running this assembly.
-Netball with Sharelle, wear PE gear

MUST DO LEARNING TASKS FOR WEEK ONE AND TWO

-Mathletics Tasks = A mixture of statistics and multiplication/division tasks have been set.

-Maths statistics = Complete the first steps in your statistics inquiry project. We will be covering this in your maths groups in class so you're all clear on what you need to be doing.

-Personal novel reading & Reading Literature Circles Task = This will be discussed and set in your reading group and due to be completed before your reading group meeting in one week.

-Holiday Recount writing = First draft due Thurs or Fri for your next Writing workshop. Edited, proofread & published copy due next Thurs May 9th

-Spelling = Words to learn and either vocabulary activity or word activity to complete this week, another new list coming next week, test on Friday.

-Jigsaw art = See Mrs Connor for your puzzle piece to go on our Room 1 & 2 doors

-Goal Setting reflection = Please make time to sit down and discuss with your whānau, return to Mr Yeoman by Friday.

Save The Date - Celebrate Frans treatment completion! Well done Frans and family!

29th April @ 12.30pm (first day back Term 2). 
To celebrate the completion of Frans' chemotherapy treatment the Alex Fire Brigade are going to bring Frans to the church carpark and accompany him up to our school bell. In keeping with tradition for children completing treatment Frans will ring our school bell. The DuPlessis family and school staff invite you all to come and join us in this momentous occasion and will be bringing chocolate cake for everyone to say thank you for your continued support of the family. We hope to see you there!

Notices for this week

Kia ora everyone. Welcome to our final week of Term 1. There are plenty of interesting things coming up to enjoy. Let's make it a great week for everyone as we look forward to the holidays!

Tues April 9th
-Reliever in Rm 1. Mr Yeoman on First Aid course.
-Unfortunately we've just been emailed that student first aid courses have been postponed until next term.

Wed April 10th
-Climate Scientist Greg Bodeker in Room 1, 9:30am. Anyone is welcome to come along and join in thie Q & A session.
-Share lunch to celebrate the end of Term 1. Please bring something to contribute.
-Shared movie
-Once again, unfortunately we've just been emailed that student first aid courses have been postponed until next term.

Thurs April 11th
-Rippa Tournament. See previous blog post for details

Fri April 12th
-Technology @ The Terrace. Please ensure you bring all that is needed.
-2:30pm final assembly for the term.

MUST DO LEARNING TASKS

Please refer to last week's post regarding these. With all the other events on this week I would hope most of you are pretty close to finished all of these. Thanks for your book letters last week. Please ensure all mathletics tasks are completed and that you are tracking on the checksheet in Room 2.

Sticks 'n' Stones t-shirts

Hey Room 1. Vanessa has sent me the following message regarding Sticks 'n' Stones t-shirts.

Anyone who wants a t shirt should fill in the form below (with parents permission of course!), if you click through on the link it will take you to an order form. 


Cost is $6 for a short sleeve and $12 for a long sleeve. 

Can we please have all orders and payments before the school holidays. (T Shirts will not be ordered unless payment has been received)

Eisteddfod Scripture Assembly

Thanks to all our Room 1 students for completing your Eisteddfod scripture performances over the last couple of days. Our school Eisteddfod assembly is on Monday, in the church at 1:30pm. Students representing Room 1 at the assembly will be

Rippa Tournament

Hi everyone. Today those students who have opted to participate in the Rippa tournament next week will be bringing home a notice. Here is the info:



Central Otago Rippa Rugby Tournament
Molyneux Park

What: Central Otago Schools Rippa Rugby tournament

When: Thursday 11th April. 9am – Aprox 2:30pm

Where: Molyneux Park

Who: Yr 3-8 students who have chosen to take part. We have two year 3-4 teams entered, 2 x Year 5-6 teams, and 2 x Year 7-8 teams entered.

Bring: PE uniform. School tracksuit. Warm clothes. Lunch and drink. Money if you want to buy food from the canteen.

Registration: All players are required to register with the Rugby union. Please click on the link on your class blog or Seesaw to fill out the registration form.

Parent Helpers: We will need 1-2 parent helpers per team. You don’t need to be a Rippa expert, you just need to help manage reserves & subbing, and help students to be at the right place at the right time. Please contact me asap if you are available to help.

Must Do Learning Tasks for Week 9 and 10

READING
-Book Letters. For most groups these are due on this Fri 5th April. Group six have written one already so yours are not due until Thurs 11th April.
-Climate Change School Journal articles and follow up activity, due prior to session with Greg Bodeker next Wed.
-Climate Change Question for Greg Bodeker, please add a question to the google doc I shared with you all, place your question beside your name.

WRITING
-See book letters above.

MATHS
-Mathletics tasks. These will close next Thurs morning, 11th April. Please also redo any previous tasks where you know you have added to your learning and knowledge and think you could now do better than you previously have done.

ORAL LANGUAGE
-Eisteddfod Scripture Reading. Please be prepared to present to the class on Thurs. Remember to refer to previous blog posts for tips, recommendations, and the sheet which shows how it will be marked. Happy practicing!

-9:00 School Mass, everyone welcome to join us as we move through this season of Lent toward Holy Week and Easter.
-Vege gardening for some students in the afternoon
-2:15 Kapa Haka rehearsal for Polyfest on Sunday

Thurs 4th April
-Central Otago Triathlon. Congratulations all those who competed so well at the Zones and qualified to represent our school at this event!
-Eisteddfod scripture readings presented in Room 1

Fri 5th April
-9:15am Stations of the Cross
-Eisteddfod Scripture Readings presented in Room 1
-2pm Kapa Haka rehearsal and assembly

Sunday 7th April
Uruuruwhenua Kapa Haka festival at Molyneux Park. Come and support our group! Students to be there at 12.30pm, festival begins at 1pm.

Mon 8th April
-1:30pm Eisteddfod Scripture assembly

Tues 9th April
-1:30 - 2:55 Year 7s completing First Aid course

Wed 10th April
-9:30am Greg Bodeker (Climate Scientist) speaking in Room 1. All are welcome to attend this Questions and Answer session. Please come along and support your children as they learn about this issue which is already having a huge impact on our planet and will impact the future of all of our children!
-Room 1 shared lunch and movie to celebrate the end of Term 1.
-1:30pm - 2:55pm Year 8s completing First Aid course.
