Task one: Report writing

As you all know we’ve been working on writing reports. We will be working in class on your draft copy of your report on your chosen topic.
1     1.) Please use your time at home to have your draft copy completed by Friday (you’ll need to take your draft book home and return it to school every day.)
2.) Please have a parent read over it also, perhaps they can help you with editing once you’ve proofread and edited it yourself.
Remember to include the features of a Report that we’ve discussed in class!

Task Two: Current Events

If you are on Current Events any time this week (see the timetable on the board in Rm 6) please be prepared, complete the tasks outlined in the Current Events scrapbook and return the book to school the next day.

Task Three: Spelling

You should each have your list of words for this week. In class we have done your ‘tooling’. If you need to repeat this at home to be confident with your words for this week then please do. Test your words every night and be ready for a spelling test on Friday.

Task Four: Reading

Thanks most of you for your reading summaries last week, well done. As usual please spend at least 15 minutes each night reading your book. This week please design a new cover for your book, think particularly about the most significant events and characters. Use one whole page of your homework book for this task.

-Friday 27th  Feb : Technology at The Terrace again this week.

Task Three: Reading

Great to see people getting organized with reading books and enjoying some reading time last week. Please spend at least 15 minutes each night reading your book. Term one Week Three (Feb 9-13)

Welcome to week three of term one! Hoping everybody had a fantastic Waitangi weekend. Room 6 students have been working really hard on developing our understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, I've been really impressed by people's keenness to learn and the fantastic questions they've all been asking. Well done, let's keep it up! Here's what's going on in the week ahead.

Homework

Main Task – Choose three of the following areas that interest you most and carry out some research. If you have other questions which interest you then you may choose another area to investigate (check with Mr Yeoman). Write a paragraph about each.

  • ·      Summarise the story of Kupe and the Great Fleet in your own words.
  • ·      Can you find out about some women who signed the treaty and tell us about them.
  • ·      Who were some of the early missionaries to New Zealand and what were they trying to achieve?
  • ·      Find out some of the reasons why early European came to New Zealand.
  • ·      Explore some of the reasons why did Maori population decrease so much in the 19th century?
  • ·      Find out about the Maori wars. What? Who? When? Where? Why?
  • ·      Find out about Parihaka. What? Who? When? Where? Why?

Task Two: Current Events

If you are on Current Events any time this week (see the timetable on the board in Rm 6) please be prepared, complete the tasks outlined in the Current Events scrapbook and return the book to school the next day.

Homework Term one Week Two (Feb 2-5)

Hi Room 6. Apologies for the lateness of this, I thought I'd posted it and only just realised I hadn't!

Main Task – Room 6 Whakatauki

Now that we’ve discussed it in class you should all understand what a Whakatauki is. Your main task this week is to research online and find a Whakatauki which you think would be appropriate for Room 6 to use as our own Whakatauki, at least for Term one this year.
1.     Find a Whakatauki you like and copy it into your book.
2.     Find out it’s translation into English and write it in your book.
3.     Write a short paragraph explaining what you think the writer of the Whakatauki was trying to say to people.
4.     Write a paragraph explaining why you think this would be a good Whakatauki for Room 6 to adopt as our Whakatauki for Term one.

Task Two: Reading book and Public Library card

1.     From now on we will be having regular reading sessions in Room 6. Sometimes Mr Yeoman will have reading for you but you will also need your own chapter book to read. Please find a chapter book, either from home, from the school library, or from the public library, before the end of the week.
2.     We will soon visit the public library, please bring your library card to school, Mr Yeoman will photocopy it so you can return it home again immediately. This means when we visit the public library you can issue books. If you brought your library card to Miss Passmore or Mr Yeoman last year then you don’t need to worry about doing this as we already have copies of yours.

Notices:
-Please see the attached notice regarding Technology at The Terrace School.
-Swimming on Tues and Wed this week, remember togs, towel and goggles.

We have a short week this week with Waitangi day holiday on Friday, therefore homework is due on Thursday morning please in the homework box.

Great start to the year, keep it up!

Mr Yeoman
