School production costumes

Our main lead parts have been organising their costumes this week. For all others in Room 6 please arrange a costume that makes you look like you're from bible times (eg tunics, cloaks,  etc).
If necessary you could visit the Musical society on Russell Street. They have their opening hours on the door but are open sometime around, Wed 11:30-1:30 and Sat 10:30-12:30

Please be getting this organised over the holidays

Round the clock race

We are hoping to have a couple of kids teams in the Round the Clock Race on Friday night as a part of The Blossom Festival Celebrations.  This is the best race in the world if you ask me and a unique opportunity for all to take part in a world class race!

For all parents interested in helping out with managing a school team - please could you let me know! This really only involves about an hour of your time!

Alternatively why not enter the race yourselves!!!

For all interested children there will be a meeting at school and a note sent home - please return this asap to confirm your child can enter and if you can help assist with a team. Thanks!

Cardboard City

Thurs Sept 15 – Fri Sept 16
St Gerard’s School
7pm – 3pm

Dear Parents

Next week Room 6 students will be taking part in the annual St Gerards ‘Cardboard City’as a part of Social Justice week. Cardboard City is an opportunity for the children to experience a small taste of some of the real-life conditions other children their age  around the world face on a daily basis.  Hopefully it will help them to gain a greater thankfulness for the things we have – a warm bed to sleep in and good food to eat. We also hope it will encourage in them a greater generosity.

The children will come to school on Thursday night at 700pm having had dinner already. They will sleep outside the school library/staffroom area in cardboard boxes, will have a simple porridge breakfast and rice meal for lunch. No other food or snacks are to be brought.

As with everything we do we will need parents to stay the night.  No you do not need to sleep in a cardboard box (but it would be great if you choose to!), a tent or a bedroll on the floor inside would be fine. Parents do not need to stay at school during the day on Friday but I would appreciate help with parents cooking the rice for lunch.

On Friday all cardboard boxes must be taken home.

The children will need to bring:
Cardboard box big enough to sleep in
Bedroll, warm sleeping bag, pillow
Warm clothes, woollen hat
Toilet bag – toothbrush, toothpaste, face cloth, hairbrush
Bowl, spoon and cup
Torch
NO electronics and NO cell phones
Any medication your child is on in a named bag handed to me please.

Thanks for your support

Mr Yeoman

Homework Term 3 Week 7

Task one: Eisteddfod Singing

You now have a copy of the marking schedule for our Eisteddfod this term – singing. This year I am happy for you to have backing support of some kind (music track, friend support singing, someone playing an instrument etc) but you must be organized early. Look carefully at how you are being judged as you work on your song. Choose your song wisely, keep it simple and easy to sing. Pick something ‘catchy’!

Task Two: Te Reo Karakia

You each now have a copy of our Karakia for meal times. Please memorise this…nice ones for people who can recite it accurately in front of the class by the end of the week!

Task Three: Prayer/Karakia à Kahn and Michael

Remember to get creative with this and bring some things from home to add to our display and Prayer/Karakia activities.
·       The prayer display must include:
1.) A bible   2.) Candles 3.) Appropriate prayer cloth 4.) A Crucifix or cross.

·       Prayer time must include a different form of prayer each day. Examples might be:
-Thankyou prayers – Prayers for the world – Hope prayers – Meditation – Compliments – Singing – Prayers with pictures – Our Father –Hail Mary – Rosary – Scripture – Poems –Other readings

·       On top of these things you can be creative and have fun leading us!

Task Four: Reading

Please spend at least 20 minutes each night reading your book. Remember to also bring your book to school every day to read.
