Task One: Poetry Eisteddfods

Our class Eisteddfod Poetry recitals will be happening on Monday 3^rd July and Tuesday 4^th July next week, and the school Eisteddfod assembly will be on Thursday 6^th July in the afternoon. We will discuss how your Eisteddfod will be marked. Please prepare your poem this week and practice it in front of your families and anyone else willing to listen! More practice means better performance and you’ll be more relaxed. Have fun!

Task Two: Spelling

Please complete your words for this week which you have taken from your draft writing books and from the ‘Commonly Miss-spelt Words’. Normal routine but with your own words.

Notices & Dates

-Tues 27^th and Thurs 29^th June = Ice hockey & Curling. 9am. Please go straight to the Ice Rink by 8.50am. If you are on a bus please remain on  it until you get to Dunstan and then walk to the Ice Rink from there.

-Wed 28^th June = Whanau Hui 5.30pm. All are welcome. Kapa Haka group will be welcoming everyone, please be there by 5.15pm if you are in Kapa Haka.

-Friday 30^th June = Technology at the Terrace, please bring everything you need.

River monitoring trip next Tues 20th June - help needed

Hi everyone. Next Tuesday Room 6 are heading out on a trip around the Manuherikia catchment, to carry out water quality tests and make observations at a range of sites on the main river and some tributaries. We have been fortunate to receive funding from the Participatory Science Platform so we're able to all travel by bus. We do however need 2-3 parent helpers to come with us and help supervise through the day. We will be leaving from the ice rink at 10am, and returning by 3pm. Please contact Mr Yeoman asap if you can help with this. Thanks!

Task One: Writing Poetry – Famous NZ poets

As we are looking at poetry writing at school I’d like you to complete a small research project on a NZ poet of your choice. You need to include a picture of them, their birth date/death date, places they’ve lived, at least one of their poems, other facts about them, and WHY you chose them/ chose that particular poem.

-Complete this on a piece of A4 card, or on a google doc and we can print it at school if you need.

-Tues 13^th June = We begin ice skating & curling. Please wear your PE gear, warm clothes, and go straight to the Ice Rink at 9am.

-Wed 14^th June = ODT Extra spelling quiz, 6:30-8:00pm. Good luck our teams!

-Fri 16^th June = Technology at The Terrace.

-Rm 6 Prayer this week = Hannah & Amber again. Please prepare something different for prayer each day. Use your imagination & creativity!

Rippa Tournament - Parent help needed

Hi everyone. As you know the Rippa tournament is happening this Thurs, June 8th. St Gerards has four teams entered. Every team must have an adult manager/coach. Rugby skills and knowledge are not required. The most important thing is that we have an adult to supervise and ensure students arrive at games on time with the right equipment and with a good attitude to play fair. This adult would also manage the reserves/subs so that everyone gets equal game time. Please get in touch with Mr Yeoman asap if you are available to do this for some or all of the day. Thanks

Wednesday 7th June

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Tomorrow Wednesday 7th June children are to wear sports uniform to school.

At 1.30pm they will be walking over the railway bridge to collect pinecones as a school. This is a school council initiative to raise funds for a new swing. Pinecones will be for sale in the school office from Thursday for $5 a sack. If you are able to come and help please let your classroom teacher know a.s.a.p.

The newsletter this week will be on Thursday. We also have cases of chicken pox!! If your child gets these please let the school know ASAP, as we need to advise Frans's family.

-Reading and tasks to be completed by Literature Circles groups on time for your group meeting please.

-Short Stories group please continue to read your own book for at least 20mins each night and bring to school to discuss and read.

Task Five: Rippa forms

If you’re in the Rippa tournament on Thurs and you haven’t yet completed the rugby union form please do so asap. Aplogies the form wasn’t always working last week but apparently this issue has been corrected. Here’s the link
