The date for school mass has now been confirmed. This will be on Sunday 19th February, 9am.

Cheers!

Homework Term one Week Two

Welcome everyone to Room 6 for 2017. Welcome back to the Year 8’s, I’m looking forward to working with you as the seniors at St Gerards. An extra special welcome to the Year 7’s, you’re a great bunch and I’m sure we’ll have an awesome year!!

I’ve had an excellent summer holiday full of fun around our beautiful South Island, Te Wai Pounamu. I’m hoping you’ve all had excellent holidays also. Returning to school after the summer can be a bit of a shock so we’ll just ease ourselves into the homework!

-       Please complete this writing task in your best hand writing, using your most interesting language and with your best spelling and punctuation. Show me all that you’re capable of!

Year Sevens

Please write a letter to me introducing yourself. I’d be expecting roughly a page. You could tell me about the things you like doing, your strengths, your weaknesses, your fears or worries, your family, friends, pets, family history, goals…anything at all!

I would also like you to write a paragraph telling me what things are important to make school good for you and what helps you to learn well. I really want to get to know you and look forward to reading these letters.

Year Eights

Please write a letter to me telling me:
-Firstly, tell me about some of your best memories over your previous years at St Gerards.
-Secondly, I’d like you to take some time to think and then write about what you want to do this year to really make the most of your final year here at St Gerards.
-Thirdly, I want you to tell me what you think you can contribute as a Year 8 to make our school a great place for everyone.
-Finally, I would also like you to write a paragraph telling me what things are important to make school good for you and what helps you to learn well.

Write on an A4 piece of refill and put it in the homework box on Friday morning before school.

Have a great week! Kia ora!

Y7/8 Cromwell-Bannockburn Aquatics and Outdoors Camp Tuesday 14th March – Friday 17th March 2017

Dear Parents

As you will be aware Room 6 is going on camp in March. We will be departing from school on the morning of Tuesday 14th March, staying for three nights in the Cairnmuir motor camp, and returning to school by mid afternoon on Friday 17th. The camp will have an aquatics skills focus (kayaking & sailing) as well as other outdoor activities. We will be needing to take around 10 parent helpers. If you are interested in joining us on what I’m sure is going to be an awesome four days around the Cromwell-Bannockburn region please complete the form below and return it to school as soon as possible.

Please note that it is Board of Trustees policy that all parents who attend camps must be Police vetted. Depending on the number of parents keen to come it may not be possible to take everyone who is keen, we will cross this hurdle if it arises!

More camp info will be coming home very soon.
Thanks!

Ollie Yeoman

Welcome to Room 6 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to Room 6 for 2017. Every time we start a new year it feels like such an opportunity and a time when we have so much ahead of us to look forward to. I’m sure we’re going to have a great time in Room 6 and I hope all of you will enjoy your time at school and enjoy your learning. Below are some things coming up and some expectations within Room 6.

Class culture
Together over the first days and weeks of school we’ll be completing some activities and discussions that will help us develop our class treaty. Once students have agreed to this they will bring a copy home to discuss with parents.

Blog
All classes at St Gerards have a blog that is linked from the school website. This will be updated weekly with homework tasks, notices and upcoming events, plus some examples of student work, activities, learning and achievements.

Homework expectation
Most weeks homework will consist of 3-4 activities. The norm is a small inquiry research task related to work in class, a current events task, spelling tasks and 20-30mins reading each night. Sometimes maths tasks will be set or some work that is not completed in class time may need to be completed. This will be posted on the blog at the beginning of each week.

Year 8 Leavers party - relocation

Hi everyone. Due to this cold weather the Year 8 leavers party has been shifted. We will no longer go to the Manorburn. We will be meeting at school 6pm for BBQ, followed by a quiz night. Look forward to seeing you all there for a fun night!

Week 9 Happenings

HOMEWORK

This week's homework is very simple - read your novel for at least 20mins each night, or longer if you think you need to in order to finish it by next Tuesday at the latest. Remember all school novels will need to be returned, it would be a huge shame to not finish your book before the summer holidays!

SECRET SANTA

Room 6 have decided  they would like to do a Secret Santa this year. Students have all pulled out a name of someone they will give a simple gift to. Gifts should be around $5 and certainly no more than $10. All Room 6 students agreed that it is their own job to organise and fund this and not their parents job!!! Gifts must be bought to school next Tues Dec 13th

SHARED LUNCH

We will have an end of year shared lunch next Tues Dec 13th. Could everyone please bring some simple and healthy food to share!

YEAR 8 LEAVERS PARTY

Could all Year 8s who are attending the leavers party next Monday please pay the office $4 for every family member who is attending. This will be a special occasion and fun celebration!
