Couches, Cushions, Bean Bags wanted!

Hi everyone. After student feedback about what would help them get into 'the Reading Zone' and enjoy their novels more, we're on the lookout for some second hand couches, comfortable chairs, cushions and / or beanbags. If anyone happens to have anything that is in good condition and is clean and tidy that they would be willing to donate to Room 6 please contact Mr Yeoman.
Thanks!

We are also happy to do a Parent Info night if this is something of interest to any of you.

The first is a QUIZ NIGHT at Monteiths on Thursday August 17 from 7pm. Tickets are $10 each and we are aiming for 10 teams of six.  We would love your support by forming a team and coming along to support us.  Under 18s are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Homework Term Three Week Two

Thanks everybody for an excellent first week back. It was great to read your holiday stories and hear all the interesting things people have been doing. Another busy week lies ahead, you’ll need to be well organized, enjoy it!

Task One: Reading

Our big homework focus for this term is going to be our personal reading. As I told you last week I’ve been reading a book called “The Reading Zone” by Nancie Atwell. She says that research suggests that reading can increase our abilities in other areas also. You have each set a page in your book you will reach by Friday, make sure you put the time in to getting there, reading at least 20mins each night.

Task Two: Current Events

We have organized our new timetable for the week. If you’re on the roster for this week then please put in the time to complete this to a high standard. Remember you will be receiving feedback from your classmates.

Task Three: Maths Times Tables grid

Our cut off this week is lowered to 4min! If you didn’t make the cut off in class on Monday, or if you were close and know you need to keep working on your basic facts, please complete a grid in your homework book each night. I will collect homework books on Fri to see your progress.

URGENTLY NEEDED FOR THE FAIR

There is a PTA meeting this Tuesday 1 August.  We have a very small PTA this year and in order for the fair in October to be successful, we desperately need some more parents involved.  This does not mean that you will be coerced onto the PTA, but rather that you are helping with some aspect of the fair.  If you feel that you would be able to help, please come along to the PTA meeting this Tuesday, or contact a parent rep from your class.
It is important that one parent rep from each class attends the PTA meetings so that you are able to update other parents.

Student Lead School Interviews

Hi everyone. As a follow-up to mid year school reports that were sent home at the end of Term 2, we are now offering student-lead interviews. These will be happening next Tues and Wed, Aug 1 & 2. Please make a booking online using the link and code below.

Web address:   www.schoolinterviews.co.nz

Code: adtrg

Please note, these interviews are a time for students to lead a discussion, show off some work they are proud of, discuss their learning, and identify some goals or areas they want to work on. Students will be spending some time this week preparing for this. I am aware that some of you would prefer the traditional model of interview, if that is the case please email me when you make your booking and we can do the interview that way.

I look forward to seeing you all!

Cheers
Ollie

Homework Term Three Week One

Welcome back everyone after your holiday. I hope everyone had a good break and had a chance to do something special and have some fun with friends or family!

We have lots of interesting things going on this term, I’m really looking forward to it and hope that we’ll all learn heaps and have fun as we do it!

Task One: Reading Survey & Library Trip preparation

-Could you please complete the reading survey you’ve been given. I would really appreciate if this can be done with parents/caregivers and discussed together.
-Also, we are taking a trip to the public library on Thursday morning. YOU MUST BRING YOUR LIBRARY CARD! Please think/talk with friends and parents about what books/authors you like, search for possible books on the library catalogue (http://codc-qldc.govt.nz/) and be ready to look for these books when we arrive at the library on Thursday.
-If you don’t have a library card could you please do your best to organize a trip to the library with your parent/caregiver in order to organize a library card. I know not everybody will be able to do this before Thurs, but it would be great if it could be done as soon as possible as we will be trying to use the public library more in the second half of this year.

Task Two: Holiday Recount

We will be working on writing stories based on an event from our holidays. You will have time to plan, draft and edit this in class this week, but you may however need to use some homework time to publish. Publish either on a google doc (and share with Mr Yeoman) or on a piece of refill paper. This must be handed in on Friday.

Task Three: Current Events

We all know the routine with this now. Please check the board to see if you are on the roster for this week. If you are please put in a good effort, be organized and be ready to share with the class.

Task Four: Maths Times Tables grid

Our cut off is still 4mins 15sec but next week we will drop this to 4mins. If you didn’t make the cut off in class on Monday, or if you were close and know you need to keep working on your basic facts, please complete a grid in your homework book each night. I will collect homework books on Fri to see your progress.
